Afghan Ambassador plant in Geneva the Resistance
Nasir Ahmad Andisha has been an ambassador without a government since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan a year ago. Blick, he says how he primarily helps the simulated counterparts, women, and is continuing his education in democracy at the University of Freiburg.
Even though the Taliban have been in power for a year, Nasir Ahmad Andisha (43) is still the ambassador in Geneva for the expelled Afghan government. “The ambassadors of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan have come together worldwide to form a council of ambassadors and are helping the Afghan people and the resistance,” says Andisha to Blick.
He sees himself primarily as an advocate for women and girls, who would have lost almost all their rights under the Taliban. To draw attention to the bad conditions, he is planning events in Geneva, such as a photo or art exhibition.
Geneva is an important place for the Afghans. “Geneva is the headquarters of human rights,” says Andisha. The Afghans feel more comfortable here than in New York, for example, which is less easy to reach for them.

One could not have expected that the Taliban would change compared to before. “Many were too optimistic and naive.” What makes things doubly bad is that they are not distancing themselves from terrorism, but are even harboring and collaborating with terrorists.
To economize, he has reduced his embassy staff from 18 to six, some of whom hold multiple offices or work part-time. “My chauffeur, for example, also works as a cleaner.”

He himself deals intensively with the Swiss political system, which he would like to transfer to Afghanistan. Last year he read the book “Swiss Democracy” and this summer he is taking a three-week course at the Institute for Federalism at the University of Fribourg.
He intends to continue his job as ambassador for as long as it takes. Andisha: «As an ambassador, I feel obliged to carry a voice for those who have had it taken away. And I do that from Geneva.”
