ALBAN MINVILLE
With Mack Sennett, we are inaugurating a season that gives pride of place to another form of cinema, a hybrid art: the cine-concert. From a carefully crafted selection, the Cinémathèque de Toulouse invites us to revisit the history of cinema and discover an artistic genre that has its origins in the era of silent cinema.
A journey between past, present and future that combines classic genres with more contemporary genres, a monthly rendezvous for everyone, for young and old alike, to enjoy with family or friends. Each show will be followed by a discussion with the musicians and a snack!
For this premiere, the proposal revolves around five films in order to identify the one that can quite rightly be considered the father of American comic cinema. The burlesque, the destructive gag, the nonsense… it’s him! Sennett, who directed and reigned over the Keystone from 1912 to 1916, would launch the careers of Harold Lloyd and even Charlie Chaplin, who would no longer be this vagabond with a big heart, but indeed a hilarious angel of destruction, this king of frenzied pursuit and brutal farce.
