The first Slovenian NBA player Marko Milič joined the Mavericks coaching staff
The Dallas Mavericks already have an outstanding coaching staff. There has been a lot of healthy skepticism surrounding the hiring of Jason Kidd, but he has done a good job so far and the staff surrounding him is fantastic. You have Jared Dudley, Sean Sweeney, Kristi Toliver and Boga Shammgod to name a few.
now, according to Marc SteinThe Dallas Mavericks plan to add another potential All-Star assistant coach in Marko Milič.
Milič was the first Slovenian NBA player. He was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the second round of the 1997 NBA draft and became teammates with Jason Kidd. Milic didn’t have a prolific NBA career, playing in just 44 games and averaging just 2.5 points per contest, but he had a long career on the international hoops scene.
More important than Phoenix’s connection to Jason Kidd is the obvious Slovenian connection to Mavericks superstar Luka Dončić.
I don’t know how good a basketball coach Milić will be. He could be a basketball genius or just some guy who used to play. But it doesn’t matter. The deepening of Slovenian ties is important. The Mavericks need to keep Doncic happy, and I think this is a good step in the right direction.
