Foot OM – OM: Saliba and Marseille, laughs at Arsenal
Author of a huge season at OM in 2021-2022, William Saliba has little chance of returning to Marseille despite the interest of Pablo Longoria.
Loaned without a purchase option by Arsenal to Olympique de Marseille, William Saliba had an exceptional season under the orders of Jorge Sampaoli. Indisputable holder in central defense, the defender trained at ASSE took advantage of his good season in Marseille to hang on to the wagon of the French team. Returning from loan to Arsenal this summer, William Saliba was not against a return to OM. But his future seems to be well and truly written at the Gunners, after being elected Man of the Match against Crystal Palace on Friday during the first day of the Premier League. Asked about William Saliba at a press conference, London manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that Arsenal’s plan was to keep the French international, although Arsenal urgently need to renew the out-of-contract player in two years.
Arsenal still closes the door to OM
“He is a determined, focused and humble boy. He wants to get involved and be coached. The first impression we had of him (after his return from loan, editor’s note) was really positive. His body language, his presence, the confidence with which he acts, you can feel a real maturity. We are going to approach these questions as we always do, the board and Edu are going to prepare all the scenarios that we will face. We want all the players to be valued, but this is only the start of the season.” launched Mikel Arteta, once again dampening the hopes of Olympique de Marseille, whose president Pablo Longoria has long hoped for a return of William Saliba. The Marseille club is still looking for a central defender by August 31, but a priori, there will be no resounding return for Saliba.
