The appointment will be preceded by the historical parade, during which the extras called to recall moments and characters from the history of each Republic will parade along the Arno.
History The Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics was officially born in 1955 with the aim of celebrating the enterprises and the rivalry between the most famous Italian maritime republics: Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa and Venice. The first edition was held in Pisa on 1 July 1956, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Giovanni Gronchi. The idea of an event that would recall the events of the four maritime powers of the Middle Ages was born towards the end of the 40s of the twentieth century thanks to the intuition of the Pisan knight Mirro Chiaverini, who proposed his project to the municipalities of the other three cities so that they could participate. The first joint meeting took place in the halls of the Municipality of Pisa on 9 April 1949. Finally, on 10 December 1955 the deed of incorporation was signed in Amalfi which sanctioned the creation of the organizing body of the historical regatta. An experimental test took place in Genoa, while the boats were built by the Gondolieri Cooperative of Venice and launched on 9 June 1956 on the Riva dei Giardini Reali. Finally, the first edition of the Regatta took place in Pisa on 1 July 1956, with the victory of Venice.
