Series of fires near Toulouse: a suspect arrested then released
A 21-year-old man was arrested and taken into police custody on Wednesday August 10 by the police to explain his job over the past few days. He was suspected of being the cause of many fires that have occurred in Léguevin in recent days. He was released. The investigation by the gendarmes of the Mirail company is continuing.
The gendarmes of the Mirail company have been on a war footing for a good week to get their hands on the arsonist(s) responsible for the fires that set the small town of Léguevin to the west of Toulouse. On August 3, a field of hectares had gone up in smoke in a few minutes. The ultra-rapid intervention of the firefighters had made it possible to protect from the flames the fifty houses and some 400 residents who live near this meadow. The fire had been stopped a few meters from the houses.
In all, in a very short turn of time, the firefighters intervened nine times, on fire departures or resumptions of fire whose voluntary origin perhaps leaves no doubt. The soldiers arrested this Wednesday, August 10 around 6 p.m., a 21-year-old man living in Léguevin, suspected of being at the origin of these disasters. The investigators heard him for a long time and had specific questions to ask him about his schedule. He was later released, no charges have yet been brought against him. It should be noted that during his entire police custody of approximately 24 hours, no fire occurred in Léguevin.
