The Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra announces its 2022-23 season
The Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra has announced its composition for the 2022-23 season.
Led by musical director Aziz Shokhakimov for its second season, the Orchester Philharmonique de Strasbourg will offer multiple concerts, an international tour and a four-year partnership with Medici.tv and Warner Classics for streaming and recording opportunities.
This article will focus on vocal performance only.
The opening works are Verdi’s “Requium”. Shokhakimov conducts soloists Krassimira Stoyanova, Jamie Barton, Benjamin Bernheim and Ain Anger. They are joined by the Choir of the National Opera of the Rhine and the Philharmonic Choir of Brno at the Palais de la Musique et des Congrès in Strasbourg. The concert will take place at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Medici.tv.

Next comes that of Franz Schreker “The Treasure Hunter.” Late Romantic German opera was nearly lost to Nazi invasions during its first performances. Thomas Blondelle, Helena Juntunen, Paul Schweinester, Derek Welton and Doke Pawels will take on the lead roles in this rarely seen opera. Christof Loy directs and Marko Letonja directs.
“The Treasure Hunter” will be sung in German with French and German surtitles. The first series of performances will take place at the Opéra National du Rhin and the second at Mullhouse at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Handel “Messiah” the holiday festivities begin. Ton Koopman conducts Elisabeth Breuer, Maarten Engeltjes, Tilman Lichdi, Andreas Wolf, alongside the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and Choir at the Palace of Music and Congress at 8 p.m.

Soprano Rachel Harnish and the Orchester Philharmonique de Strasbourg will give two concerts from the program entitled “darling freedom” led by Oksana Lyniv. Harnish performs Richard Strauss’s “Four Last Songs”. Both concerts will take place at the Palais de la Musique et des Congrès at 8 p.m.

Back at the Palais de la Musique et des Congrès, Gergely Madaras will conduct the Orchester National de Lille and the soprano Christina Gansch. “In the heart of Vienna” includes works by Schubert, Webern, Berg and Mozart. Gansch will perform Berg’s “Sieben frühe Lieder”. The concert starts at 8 p.m.
Performance date: February 10, 2023
“The Human Voice” de Poulenc stars Patricia Petibon as Elle. The one-act tragedy will be sung in French with German and French surtitles. Also on view is “Aeriality,” an orchestral work by Anna Thorvaldsdottir. Concerts take place at the Opéra national du Rhin at 8 p.m. and 3 p.m.
The second round of this production will take place at Mullhouse.
Performance dates: From February 18 to 26, 2023 and from March 12 to 14, 2023
The next concert broadcast live on Medici.tv and recorded is a concert version of Bizet “Carmen. » Joyce DiDonato sings the title role alongside Micheal Spyers as Don José. John Nelson conducts the Chorus of the Opéra national du Rhin. Both performances take place at the Palais de la Musique et des Congrès at 8 p.m.
This production of “Carmen” will be revived on the UK leg of the tour at the Royal Albert Hall at 7pm.

by Rimsky-Korsakov “The Story of Tsar Saltane” takes place at the Opéra national du Rhin with performances at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Ante Jerkunica takes on the title role and is joined by Svetlana Aksenova and Stine Marie Fischer. Aziz Shokhakimov directs alongside Dmitri Tcherniakov’s direction.
Another production of ‘The Tale of Tsar Saltane’ will take place in Mullhouse.
Performance dates: May 5 – 13, 2023 & May 26 & 28, 2023
Elisabeth Teige, Adriana Gonzalez, Arturo Chacón-Cruz and Mischa Schelomianski star in Puccini’s production “Sunflower” at the Opéra national du Rhin. Performances are at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Domingo Hindoyan is conductor and Emmanuelle Bastet is director.
The final vocal production for the 2022-23 seasons will be the same production of “Turnadot” held at Mullhouse.
