The Information of San Marino. Marino Cecchetti: “Debt and spending without restraint”
MARINO CECCHETTI – The public debt contracted externally at an already too high starting rate (approximately 3.5%) could become unmanageable at the time of renewal due to the growth in international interest rates, as Repubblica Futura highlighted in detail on Tuesday last. Yet the government is still de facto not concerned with it.
Still the state budget is perhaps not a balance. When will we start saving to pay off debt? Among politicians every now and then, instead of the intention to save, emerges the urge, typical of the pre-elections, to spend without restraint. Shameless!
Will we ask Italy for help? To the International Monetary Fund (IMF)? To the European Union (EU)?
Italy. Words, handshakes, photos, pats on the back. Facts? A substantial part of what Italy got – 6.5 billion euros – from radio and television frequencies (connected to the ‘San Marino’ channel 51) auctioned for 5G was up to our State. We didn’t have anything. Indeed, worse. Our politicians in the circumstance said yes to the enlargement of the San Marino Rtv basin, only half of San Marino broadcaster. Enlargement whose project could involve a huge investment, while the recovery would remain extremely uncertain, given the very strong competition in the sector.
IMF. We have, in fact, ignored the recommendations that he has dispensed to us for decades. For years and years it has asked us in vain – and perhaps continues to ask – for true data, that is real, those necessary to offer us a serious, possible and realistic project of recovery and development.
EU. The Foreign Secretary, Luca Beccari, should run to Brussels with his hat in hand even before completing the Association path.
