Monaco offers Strasbourg for the recovery
Until now an impregnable fortress in 2022, the Stade de la Meinau gave in on the first day of Ligue 1. Strasbourg lost this Saturday against AS Monaco (1-2), thanks to goals from Krépin Diatta and Sofiane Diop on the Monegasque side, and Habib Diallo for the Alsatians. If the match was generally animated, it was not until the 43rd minute to see the meeting unlock.
Shortly before the break, Sofiane Diop is thus maneuvering to take one of the many Monegasque corners, left side. Axel Disasi, scorer on Tuesday against PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League, won his duel with a header and prolonged the outgoing run of the ball. The leather returns to Krépin Diatta who resumes with a sublime taut volley that spins into the cages of Matz Sels. At the exit of the locker room, in the continuity of a shot blocked by Ludovic Ajorque, the Senegalese could have doubled the bet but this time lost his duel against the Belgian goalkeeper (48th).
It is ultimately only a postponement for the ASM. After a two-man game with Gelson Martins to penetrate to the right of the area, Sofiane Diop dives at the far post, and finds himself recovering from the center of the Portuguese, deflected by Dimitri Liénard then diverted by Sels. Alone in front of goal, Diop only has to push the ball into the back of the net (53rd). On the hour mark, Jean Lucas misses 3-0. Found by Breel Embolo deep to the left of the area, the Monegasque midfielder opens his right foot and looks for the closed side of Sels’ goal. The Strasbourg goalkeeper touches the ball, which fails on the post.
Strasbourg very close to returning
After having ceased the chaos, the Alsatians restore hope. On a cross from the right of Thomas Delaine, Habib Diallo won in the air at the far post and propelled the ball into the back of the nets of Aleksandr Nübel, so far impeccable against Sanjin Prcic (3rd), Liénard (21st ) or even Ajorque (38th). The Monegasque goalkeeper had also won in his previous duel against the Strasbourg striker just before the break (45th).
In the last ten minutes, Monaco failed twice to recover. Lonely in the penalty area, on the right of the cages of Sels, Vanderson rushes and crosses his strike with the right foot too much (80th). Five minutes later, Diatta rolls up a cross from the right that is grazed by the head of Maghnes Akliouche. Relaxes perfectly on his left and spreads the ball.
Everything could have changed in stoppage time. On a free kick slightly to the left, Alexander Djiku puts the ball back in a bell. Habib Diallo is at the reception and registers a second but… which will be finally canceled for Djiku’s offside. What to give back to the Alsatians, who insists. But Adrien Thomasson at close range then Gerzino Nyamsi stumble again on Nübel. Monaco pocket three points and give themselves confidence for the return match against PSV next Tuesday.
