Another double rail in Prague. The railway administration is planning to expand the section between Krčí and Zahradní Město
Until now, only freight trains travel along the line, due to the introduction of the S71 line, the Praha-Spořilov stop is to be created.
The Railway Administration begins preparations to increase the capacity of another line in Prague. She wrote competition for the companywhich will prepare for her the project plan for the double-tracking of the line used so far only by freight trains: between the Spořilov branch and the Praha – Zahradní Město station.
The extension refers to the section which, along most of the route, copies the route of the road Southern Connector and enables a direct connection from the 4th corridor to the 3rd corridor to Pilsen. According to the plan, the modernization of the double track to a speed of 100 km/h will enable the operation of trains 740 meters long and connection to the TEN-T network. So far, the track can be driven at a maximum of 75 km/h.
The importance of the line is expected to grow in the future mainly due to Prague’s plans to introduce new tangential lines to the line S71 Prague-Radotín – Prague-Zahradní Město – Prague-Běchovice. This is also why a new stop Praha-Spořilov is to be built here. Preparations for the double-tracking of the Branické Bridge are already in an advanced stage. The modification of the Krč junction at the Praha – Zahradní Město station and the modification of the Praha-Krč station should also be included.
It is not yet clear when construction will begin and how expensive the construction will be. “Currently, the contract for the project plan has only been published, it is premature to talk about costs or implementation dates at this stage. We anticipate submitting the processed plan to the Ministry of Transport in the second half of next year, and we will be able to specify the next procedure and the expected investment costs only after it has been submitted to the Central Commission.Dušan Gavenda, spokesman for the Railway Administration, said.
The tender documentation also contains data on the condition of the bridges from the 1960s on this section, a consequence of their not very good condition.
