A concert by Bilbao Sinfonietta opens the Cycle of Contemporary Music
United Nations Bilbao Sinfonietta concert opens next Monday the Cycle of Contemporary Music of the 83 Donostia Musical Fortnightcomposed by four recitals that will take place at the Kursaal Palace and in which works of Gabriel Erkoreka and Egemen Kurt. According to the Fortnight in a note, this cycle hosts each year the most innovative proposals of the festival and constitutes the meeting point of the public interested in discovering the latest trends in both Basque and international composition.
In fact, each edition of some of the Europe’s leading specialized artists and groupsalthough Basque composers always find “an outstanding space” in it as well.
On this occasion, the Contemporary Music Cycle includes four concerts, on August 8, 11, 17 and 24, the first of which will be performed by Bilbao Symphony who will interpret Ametsak by Bilbao composer Gabriel Erkoreka, winner of the National Music Award in 2021, in a program that also supports the moon pierrot by Arnold Schoenberg.
Since its creation in 2016, Bilbao Sinfonietta has become one of the most active groups on the Basque circuit of contemporary music.
Extreme Sound Set will be the protagonist of the second concert of the cycle, which will take place on August 11 and which resulted, among others, in works by Jesús Torres, Miquel Urquiza and Carlos Rojo.
On the 17th it will be the turn of the Mauritius Quartet, which will perform creations by Helmut Lachenmann, Egemen Kurt, and Francesca Verunelli, while the group SIGMA Project will close the cycle, on August 24, with a program made up of works by John Cage, Gabriel Erkoreka, Helga Arias, Iannis Xenakis, Nuria Giménez Comas and Luis de Pablo.
