Thoughts at Burgers voor Borsbeek about collaboration on personnel between city and municipality (Borsbeek)
The city of Antwerp and the municipality of Borsbeek announced a few days ago that they have an agreement in the field of personnel policy. For example, the city of Borsbeek helps with the provision of choices and the municipality may use city personnel for payment.

But Burgers voor Borsbeek, which opposes a merger with Antwerp, has reservations about this collaboration. “How can you say on the one hand that the merger is not yet complete, but on the other hand there are personnel. In the past, the Borsbeek mayor always said that he was looking for a love for our municipality. Well, he found them but crawls into bed with them before the wedding”, responds Jos Spaepen of Burgers for Borsbeek.
Mayor Dis Van Berckelaer (Everyone Borsbeek) indicated that the agreement has many advantages. “We have a range of vacancies, but we get them unfilled vacancies. With this agreement we can call on staff from the city of Antwerp, who also work for us and for which we will of course pay. We will continue to recruit our own staff, but here too we can fall back on support from the city of Antwerp.”
Confidentiality?
Despite the fact that other municipalities sometimes share civil servants, Spaepen is concerned. “I hope the people of Borsbeken will ask questions about our privacy. Suppose the merger does not go through, our data has ended up with the city of Antwerp. Besides, the city staff were overwhelmed with all the work, weren’t they?”
Burgers voor Borsbeek announces that it is growing towards 1,700 signatures to force a plebiscite. It is aiming for 2,500 signatures to allow a referendum to go ahead.
