Goes out with the salary for Riise and Solbakken after criticism
The Norwegian Football Association publishes what the women’s and men’s national team coaches earn after a meeting of the board.

Hege Riisenew national team coach for the women, servant DKK 1.67 million in the year. It is the same salary as a football president Lise Klaveness have.
Men Ståle Solbakkennational team coach for the men, has an annual salary of five million kroner – With options for bonuses of one million kroner depending on results. The agreement was signed in 2020, when Terje Svendsen was football president.
After Riise was hired as the new manager of the women’s national football team, it has been discussed in the media she and Solbakken should have equal pay. Equality Minister Anette Trettebergstuen (Labor Party) was among those who roasted on the head. The players on the women’s and men’s national teams have equal pay from the NFF.
It has also been reacted to The NFF does not have transparency around the salary of the two coaches.
On Friday, the NFF and the two coaches choose to go out with the salary level after the theme was discussed in the board.

– Although it is reserved for the NFF to decide the salary for both national team managers, the reality is that we somehow have to deal with fundamentally different markings. We work for equalization, but at the same time must compete in marking that in Norway and in the world are extremely different in many ways, also when it comes to wages, says Klaveness.
Hege Riise is well satisfied with the salary she was offered.
– It is a good salary which reflects that I am the boss of one of the flagships in Norwegian football. I live well with Ståle earning more than me. However, it is important that more girls and women get a salary where they can make a living from football and concentrate 100 percent on developing as a player and coach, says Riise.
According to the NFF, Riise’s salary is higher than predecessor Martin Sjögren.
– When we had to hire a new national team manager for the women, we wanted to raise the level from Riise’s predecessor and offer a salary that we think reflects that this is a very important position in Norwegian football. We therefore decided to set the salary at the same salary level as for the NFF’s top elected leader, the president’s honorarium, says Klaveness.
Danske Ekstra Bladet has previously written that Solbakken had a salary of around the same 14 million Norwegian kroner as coach for FC Copenhagen.
– In FCK I earned much, much more. It is not possible to compare once, Solbakken told VG on Thursday.
Sjögren’s coaching career for Norway ended after the European Championship fiasco, where Norway crashed out of the group stage and lost 0–8 to England.
