a major concern for Monaco
Each week several samples are taken to protect the population.
Good water quality for a good swim. Rest assured, the Principality is keeping a close eye on the quality of the Mediterranean Sea. The six authorized Monegasque bathing areas are particularly supervised.
From May until the end of September, many analyzes are carried out to prevent all risks. Nicolas Bonnet, technician at the Department of the Environment, explains on the microphone of Monaco Info, place ” a water probe to recover certain physico-chemical parameters such as salinity, dissolved oxygen, ph and temperature. […] It also allows you to obtain the chlorophyll level, which gives you a good idea of the quality of the seawater,” explains the technician, who is essential for the smooth running of summer swimming.
The samples collected are then analyzed in the laboratory in order to decelerate the presence of bacteria and, above all, their rate. Nicolas Bonnet says that ” 99% of the time there is no problem in Monaco”.

Waters just as monitored in France
In France too, water quality is scrutinized to guarantee tourists and locals a safe swim.
This is how last week, three beaches in Nice (Beau Rivage, Centenaire and Le Galet) had to be closed after the discovery of oil pollution.
The Paillon would be in question. Indeed, the precipitation of the last week will have carried hydrocarbons into the Paillon. The river would then have dumped them into the Mediterranean Sea. Today, the French nautical brigade reassures, it is again possible to swim without risk around Nice.
