5-star hotel in and around Budapest, where you can enjoy a magical falling star
Another August is here, when we can indulge in one of our favorite evening pastimes, namely counting the shooting stars that streak across the sky. If you can do one, get ready to make many, many wishes!
Svábhegy Observatory
This month, you can enjoy the many programs of Budapest’s interactive astronomy experience center, the Svábhegyi Csillagviszgáló. Between August 5 and 13, in addition to the Perseid meteor shower, we can take a closer look at the craters of the Moon, but we can also enjoy the sight of a wonderful open cluster, a magnificent globular cluster and a famous planetary nebula.
During the month, as part of the Astro Matinees, children and grown-up children alike will be introduced to the Solar System in an understandable way, and on August 11, the programs of the Svábhegy Observatory will also focus on the night of shooting stars.
The shooting star will be followed by an exclusive event where astronomy meets classical music. The concert organized on September 2 commemorates the astronomical and musical work of the famous astronomer William Herschel, who also discovered Uranus, in the ancient tree park of the Svábhegy Observatory, at the base of the illuminated, classicist domes.
Shooting star on the Cellar Roof
On August 12, the night of the peak of the Perseids, Pátyi Pincehegy invites you to an atmospheric shooting star hunt. The shooting stars can be observed and counted from the meadow behind Pincehegy, where a short path leads from the Hangulat Pince – which provides all earthly goodies for a pleasant evening from 6 p.m. until midnight. Stretching out on the blankets, we can spy the sky, sip delicious thirst quenchers, and quench our hunger with greasy bread. It is worth preparing for the event with a blanket and mosquito repellent, as well as a flashlight if required.
SUP Budapest: Shooting Star Tour 2022
What would you say if we told you that between August 12th and 14th you will be able to enjoy the August sky with waves under your back? Join the SUP Budapest team at sunset to go out to Egyfás Island, where you can watch the sky non-stop after making a fire and frying bacon. If you would like to maximize the experience, there is also the possibility to spend the whole night under the open sky, hidden in a sleeping bag and covered with stars. It is worth preparing with a headlamp or flashlight, the equipment, life jacket and ingredients for frying bacon will be provided by the organizers.
A week under the stars
The goal of the “A week under the stars” initiative is to bring the experience of spying on the starry August sky to as many people as possible. This year, between August 5 and 14, we will have the opportunity to participate in the program series at no less than 50 locations across the country. Using their constantly expanding interactive map, you can find the nearest observatory and starry location, be it a telescope demonstration on the banks of the Danube in Szentendre, on Kopasz-hegy in Fót, or in the Polaris Observatory in Óbuda in Gyálo.
Perseids Celebration and Night Picnic
On August 12th and 13th, a real festive atmosphere surrounds the house of the Boncz Farm in Anőlő, where we can spend a stargazing night in a fairytale atmosphere, as part of a night picnic. On the splash terrace hidden under the sycamore trees, tasting the delicacies of ManDeli’s small producers, you can tune in to the evening accompanied by an acoustic concert, and after dark, everyone can occupy the picnic spot reserved for them in the hope of seeing as many stars as possible. Reservations are required for the picnic due to the limited number of places, but you can also buy a visitor’s ticket on the spot.
