Toulouse: Attendance records for open-air cinema
6,583 spectators halfway through! The Cinémathèque de Toulouse had never welcomed so many people in July as part of the Cinéma en plein air festival, the 19th edition of which began on July 9.
Thank you cinema, thank you heat wave! There’s nothing better in the warmth of the night than airing out your mind, heart and body by attending a film screening at the Cinémathèque de Toulouse. This is what the 6,583 spectators no doubt thought, who in July went to the institution on rue du Taur, to see or see again, in the open air, in the courtyard of the Cinémathèque, or in a room air-conditioned for those who preferred to attend the indoor sessions, masterpieces of the 7th art.
Thus, 5,395 people (350 spectators on average per screening) gathered under the stars in the courtyard of the Cinémathèque to see films such as “Captain Fantastic”, “Casablanca”, “Drunk”, “In the Mood for Love” “The City of Fear” “Les Tontons flingueurs”, “Moonrise Kingdom” or “The Truman Show”. As for indoor screenings (all films screened outdoors are shown in theaters the day after their outdoor screening), they attracted 1,188 spectators (80 spectators on average per screening) .
The public is very diverse and the screenings of the Cinéma en plein air festival attract both locals and tourists passing through.
This summer film festival continues until August 27, with must-see films like “A Groundhog Day” this Thursday August 4, “Jeremiah Johnson” on Saturday August 6, “Gran Torino” this Sunday August 7, “ , Take Shelter” Thursday August 11, “Mad Max: Fury Road” Saturday August 13, “Under the Skin” August 18, “The Fifth Element” August 19, “Grave” August 25, “Parasite” August 26 , to finish, Saturday, August 27 with “Pretty Woman” is the delicious Julia Roberts. Please note: the outdoor sessions, which until then started at 10 p.m., will start at 9:30 p.m. from Wednesday August 10. And indoor sessions at 6:30 p.m. instead of 7 p.m.
