SOS Médecins no longer intervenes in certain areas after attacks
The federation of associations has decided to exercise its right of withdrawal in several areas spread over six municipalities in the Metropolis of Lyon.
Toulouse, Pleasant, Grenoble, Pau and now Lyon. Cities change but the observation remains the same for SOS Médecins: health professionals are the targets of violent attacks almost everywhere in France.
Latest events in the Lyon region, “many incidents against SOS Doctors doctors or their vehicles” have been reported by them in the northeast of the metropolis. Following these attacks, health professionals have decided to no longer intervene in several areas of the Lyon conurbation by exercising their right of withdrawal.
“Please note, following numerous incidents against SOS Médecins doctors or their vehicles, SOS MÉDECINS Lyon, after having informed the Council of the Order of Physicians and the Supervisory Authorities, has decided to exercise its right of withdrawal” , indicated the federation of associations on their website.
Contacted by the editorial staff of BFM Lyon, the president of SOS Médecins Rhône decided for his part not to respond to the interview request.
Six municipalities concerned
Of the 59 municipalities that make up the Metropolis of Lyon, six are part of the areas where SOS Médecins doctors will no longer go (in blue on the map below).
The municipality with the largest number of areas excluded by SOS Médecins Lyon is Vaulx-en-Velin. In total, 23 streets are banned by the services of the federation, from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., with a stop taking calls from 12 p.m.
In Bron, no intervention will take place from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on avenues Edouard Herriot and Saint Exupéry, but also on rue Claude Delaigue, Paul Bellemain and Paul Pic, as well as in Square Laurent Bonnevay.
Rue Louis Pradel, at the level of the Travelers camp (industrial zone), is for its part affected by the end of medical visits to Corbas.
In the eighth arrondissement of Lyon, no consultation will be carried out on the square from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. from a place called 130 to number 161, rue Challemel Lacour. Calls will also be stopped every day at noon.
Boulevard Lénine in its entirety and rue Gaston Monmousseau de Vénissieux are excluded from visits by doctors from the Federation.
Finally, only numbers 36 and 38 rue Jean Jaurès are affected by the restrictions in Villeurbanne.
Contacted by our colleagues from Progress, the town hall of Lyon indicated that it was following “very closely” the problem of insecurity encountered by health professionals, while mentioning that some of the streets cited by SOS Médecins no longer exist following urban renewal. However, the problems associated with the latter seem to have survived.
