Already 620,000 visitors: Satisfied faces from hosts and organizers
Hanover. Last Wednesday, the Maschseefest was opened – time for a first balance sheet. And it quickly turned positive: Hannover Marketing GmbH counted 620,000 visitors up to and including Monday evening: “That’s a very good result for us!” says Head of Marketing Hans Nolte. “We were unable to estimate in advance how the Maschseefest WILL go: It’s the summer holidays and a lot of people are on vacation. But even more important: It is the restart after Corona.”

After the first week it was clear: “The visitors are really interested in the festival and the party around the lake.” Saturday was impressive: “We were first surprised by the rain.” And the stamina of the visitors. “They just stayed, took shelter and waited until it was dry again,” says Nolte happily. He is now waiting for the weather to remain good for the rest of the time: “Maybe we’ll get the two million visitors then,” Nolte dares to make a cautious forecast.
Problem child Geibelstr
He is still critical of the situation on Geibelstrasse: “Most people think that it always ends early here. This is a real communication problem. After all, there can also be long celebrations here at the weekend,” emphasizes Nolte. The street food festival at the Löwenbastion also had difficulties: The operators “had a hard hit with Corona in the run-up, they couldn’t keep up with the construction. Now the station has to find its friends first.” Nolte wants to attract night owls and young people with the Löwenbastion, which should establish itself as an alternative to the north bank.

His customers have already found that. The many new restaurants in particular have been enthusiastically received. Nolte gives an example: “The Al Dar has developed its audience within a week and is already firmly one of them!”
There is also a lot going on during the week: Whoever comes will be rewarded with a colorful evening atmosphere at the Maschsee.

Al-Dar boss Aboubker Askourih visits his new lakeside restaurant every day. “We are very happy with this start,” he confirms. “You can see that people are super happy after two years of Corona, you can really see this longing for freedom. On Saturday they even danced on the tables until two o’clock in the morning – when has that been seen lately?” How is the economy doing? Askourih is still reluctant to make any statements and wants to wait and see for the rest of the time. It worries him that he optimistically planned the lake restaurant without a roof so as not to block the night view of the starry sky. When it rains, large umbrellas are opened. “I’ll think of something for next year – maybe an awning solution.”
Hope for stable weather
The weather has also made things difficult for the linden leaf: “We’re still learning,” says Maschseefest new host Ferdi Simsek. But regardless of that, things are going well for him gastronomically. “Our first winegrowers’ evening at the festival was very well received, we are completely booked!” Simsek says happily.

Susan Hesselink from Bolero Island is also satisfied: “We all had chattering teeth before the opening. But the weekend was really good, if the week is still halfway bearable, we should be satisfied,” says the restaurateur.

Meanwhile, Björn Hensoldt is trying to advertise his Clichy on Geibelstrasse and has hung up boards with the opening hours in many places. He also explains again and again that you can also eat spontaneously and à la carte. Word gets around all the time too. The Gastro-Trends boss ensures that the somewhat balanced start can still be.
