Prague Airport will distribute 18 million crowns to projects in the surrounding municipalities
The airport resumed the grant program after the covid break. With support, they try to compensate or reduce the negative effects of air traffic, such as noise, on the residents of nearby municipalities.
“I am pleased that, thanks to the renewed increase in traffic, we can return to financial support projects in the immediate vicinity and thus contribute to the development of the surrounding communities. After all, it is our home and that of our employees. At the same time, the willingness to help strengthens good neighborly relations, which they consider very important”, said the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Prague Airport Jiří Pos.
Municipalities and other organizations can send applications for their projects until the end of September. Finally, they will be assessed by a committee, which, according to the airport, will focus primarily on their contribution to the wider community, efficiency and meaningfulness.
The airport resumed the grant program after the covid break. At the same time, the program will link to the airport’s non-financial activities in the vicinity, in the form of, for example, services for the improvement of the area. In addition, the airport also provides subsidies for noise protection measures for households in adjacent municipalities. The airport will also continue to finance the language education of elementary school children.
Airport programs try to compensate for the impacts of aviation on surrounding communities. Due to the planned expansion of the airport with a new parallel runway, representatives of Suchdol and Nebušice, who oppose the construction of the new runway, are worried about them.
In the last year, the Prague Airport Group reported an operating profit (EBITDA) of 145 million crowns. That’s new millions by 862 crowns. Last year, despite the ongoing covid crisis, the airport came out of a loss, and traffic should continue to grow this year.
