“No Ricompensa”, the documentary on the history of the Misericordia of Florence at the MAD
Wednesday 3 August 2022at 21.00, theTourbillon Cultural Association proposes the screening of “No Reward“, the documentary on the history of the Misericordia of Florenceto the MAD Murate Art Districtin piazza delle Murate.
Created by Leandro Giribaldi, it recounts the relief work carried out for centuries, without “any reward”, by the confreres of the Misericordia of Florence to the needy, the plague victims, the cholera and during the Second World War. The documentary on the inseparable relationship between Mercy and the city is enclosed in a box, entitled “8 centuries of Mercy – History of the Venerable Arciconfraternita della Misericordia of Florence“containing 2 DVDs made by Leone Multimedia. “No reward” is the first of 7 films and tells, also through a play performed by professional actors, the centuries-old history of the Sodality while the others are dedicated to significant themes and moments in the life of the Institution – the plague, the cholera epidemic of 1855, the world wars, the Pinti cemetery, the Soffiano cemetery, sports services – and end with the special contributions by historians prof. John Henderson and Prof. Costanza Geddes from Filicaia.
Director Leandro Giribaldi has been involved in cinema since the 1980s. He has made, as a screenwriter and director, many short films and documentaries, some of which have won prizes and awards. Among these: “No reward” (2020), the history of the Misericordia of Florence; “Given the times they run” (2018), taken from the diary of great-grandfather Benedetto Ciabatti, a prisoner of the Austro-Hungarians during the First World War; “Federico Zandomeneghi” (2016); “Portrait of Bargellini” (2016); “Kaleidoskop” (2012); “Jorio Vivarelli” (2009); “Futurism in Florence” (2009); “Angels of the mud” (2006); “One day like any other” (2004); “I macchiaioli” (2003); “Giovanni Fattori, painter of truth” (2001); “Pinocchio, the shark and the sea at Osmannoro” (1995). He collaborates with the Castello di Firenze cinema where he organizes film history courses and reviews. In 2021 he published his first book “A shadow is only a shadow”.
