Siena is the first province in Tuscany for the growth of buses and heavy vehicles
Siena is the first province in Tuscany for the growth of registrations of buses and heavy vehicles. This was revealed by the Observatory on the macro-trends of heavy transport carried out by Continental. The study highlights the trends highlighted by the development of the fleet in Italy and Tuscany, through the analysis of data on registrations, types of power supply, seniority and the euro category.
As for heavy goods vehicles, in 2021 there were 96 new trucks in Siena, + 41.2% compared to the previous year, almost double the regional (22.4%) and national (23.2%) average. %).
The national passenger transport sector shows an important sign of growth, with 4,091 vehicles registered in 2021 compared to 3,404 in 2020 (+ 20.2%). A contrasting scenario is presented at the local level: among the negative regions, Tuscany sees a decline in new registrations that exceeds -22% (133 units, 39 less than the previous year). Siena is in first place for registrations attesting + 150% and 10 new plates.
Power supply: Siena, almost all the buses run on diesel
In 2021, the number of freight trucks in circulation in Italy reached 4,290,042 units. In terms of power supply, the national situation almost unchanged compared to remains in 2020 with a clear predominance of diesel. There is a growth, albeit timid, of alternative diets.
The situation in Tuscany sees the electric and hybrid at 0.4%. The percentage of diesel-fueled trucks remains predominant (88.7% of the fleet).
Siena shows lower figures than the regional trend: the percentage of hybrid and electric vehicles stands at 0.2%. Diesel vehicles are growing, reaching 90%.
The bus fleet in our country instead recorded 100,199 units in 2021. Also in this context, from the point of view of power supply, the scenario is stable compared to 2020, although with some small signs of improvement: the majority of vehicles in circulation still run on electric diesel, while the shares of hybrid e grow but do not exceed 1%.
For alternative sources, in Tuscany the hybrid is 0.1% while the electric reaches 0.5%. Diesel fuel exceeds 94% and methane reaches 4.5%.
The delicate situation in Siena sees the share of electric and hybrid buses reaching 0%. Diesel makes up 99.7% of the fleet and petrol 0.3%.

In Siena the rate of Euro 0, 1 and 2 is 26.6% and the percentage of Euro 0 touching 4.8%. In the province, the Euro 5 and 6 classes drop to 39.1%.
