US Steel wants to green production and reduce energy consumption. ESCO Slovakia will help them
US Steel Košice is heading towards a more sustainable future. The Košice steelworks will have a climate footprint with the help of ČEZ and ESCO Slovakia, a joint venture between ČEZ ESCO and SPP.
The companies US Steel Košice and ČEZ signed a non-binding memorandum of cooperation on the creation of a strategic partnership, the subject of which will be the analysis of future energy needs of USSK and cooperation in supplying steel mills with energy-free energy from renewable and nuclear sources, as well as the introduction of energy-saving measures. The analysis and proposed solution will be developed by the ESCO Slovakia group, which is working on several energy equipment modernization projects in the Košice region.
Two strong brands from two neighboring countries have joined together on the way to the modern, safe energy of the future. The memorandum concerns cooperation in the field of emission-free electricity, the construction of renewable sources, energy efficiency and savings, as well as the development of innovative environmentally friendly solutions.
The cooperation between the Czech energy group and the Slovak steel mills was confirmed by the representatives by signing a memorandum. For ČEZ, Pavel Cyrani, vice chairman of the board, Martin Novák, member of the board and president of US Steel Košice, Jim Bruno and Elena Petrášková, vice president for subsidiaries and general legal representative.
“We want to maintain the Košice operation in the first part of the decarbonization of industry in Slovakia. ČEZ and ESCO Slovakia should help ensure that our path to sustainable operation will be efficient, transparent and built on emission-free energy sources and innovative technologies,” said Jim Bruno, president of US Steel Košice.
Both sides agreed on the need to analyze the energy needs of the Košice operation in the area of energy savings and energy supply. The actual analysis of the current state of the energy sector in US Steel and Ferroenergy will be carried out by ESCO Slovakia, including the possibilities of using available subsidies. Based on the results of the proposed group of solutions for energy savings, reduction of emissions, as well as energy costs.
“On the Slovak energy market, we have reached the area of necessary, cost-effective and ecological solutions. We have behind us successful orders for example for hospitals, housing authorities, as well as for corporate clients. However, the partnership with US Steel Košice and the joint projects that we will carry out based on today’s memorandum take our activities to a new level,” added Naďa Hartmann, CEO and chairwoman of the board of ESCO Slovakia.
The partnership between US Steel Košice, ČEZ and ESCO Slovakia has already brought the first results. For example, ESCO Slovensko in Košice analyzed the possibility of decentralizing the production of compressed air, modernizing the heat supply and drew up an offer for the reconstruction of the central exchange station.
