City of Zurich restricts fire and fireworks
With immediate effect, barbecuing is only permitted on fixed devices and under supervision throughout the city. Stricter rules also apply to fireworks.
The heat and drought that has lasted for days has increased the risk of fire.
On July 21, 2022, the canton of Zurich therefore ordered a fire ban for the entire canton in and near forests. As the city’s security department writes in a statement today, it has classified the situation as critical and is therefore also restricting the use of fire.
City councilor Andreas Hauri, deputy head of the security department, has ordered the following: On August 1, 2022 and on the night of August 2, fireworks may only be set off from solid, non-flammable surfaces such as gravel pitches and tarred surfaces. In addition, a general fire ban applies with immediate effect.
Grill only on the grill
Barbecuing is permitted provided that it is done in fixed fixtures (barbecue, fire bowl) and under supervision.
According to the department, the ban will remain in place “until the next heavy rainy day”.
