“By extending four TEN-T corridors to the territory of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, including the ports of Mariupol and Odesa, our proposal will help improve transport connectivity between these two countries and the EU by facilitating economic exchanges and better connections for citizens and companies. These corridors will also be a key priority in rebuilding Ukraine’s transport infrastructure after the end of the war,” said the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina Vălean.
Also, the revised proposal of the European Commission has removed Russia and Belarus from the map of the TEN-T corridors, “in the current context, cooperation with these states is not considered to be adequate nor in the interest of the European Union”, it is stated in the statement of the Community Executive . .
In addition, the proposal requires new lines that are built in EU member states that have a land border with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to be built based on the European standard gauge and invites member states to draw up plans to modify existing railway lines , where they are economically justified, to the European standard gauge.
The Commission’s proposal for the revision of the Regulation for the development of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) is discussed in the present European Parliament and the Council of the EU.
