Weißenhorn/Zurich: Technology for complex concrete structures: Peri participates in a start-up
The Weißenhorn-based company Peri is cooperating with a Swiss group and a young company in order to establish a new construction method on the market.
The Weißenhorn-based company Peri SE and the Swiss company Sika AG are participating in the start-up Mesh AG. This is also based in Switzerland and, according to a statement from Peri, has developed the world’s first robot-supported technology for the efficient and cost-effective complex of reinforced concrete parts without formwork.
The so-called mesh technology therefore makes it possible to manufacture complex or irregular reinforcement cages, which were previously manufactured in a laborious manual process, using an automated prefabrication process. The 3D lattice structure created in this way then serves as formwork and reinforcement and is filled with a specific concrete mixture without conventional formwork. The technology can be used for special concrete structures for the production of complex shapes for structural and civil engineering, conventional concrete structures can also be optimized and material-efficiently realized.
Construction technology was studied intensively at the Technical University in Zurich
As Peri further reports, the new construction technology was developed in ten years of intensive research at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. The technological breakthrough came in 2018 with the robot-assisted production of a curved concrete wall in the DFAB building in Zurich, a research building. In partnership with Peri and Sika, the technology has been transferred to an industrial construction process since 2019. Now Mesh AG is founded. It is a spin-off company based in Zurich, an offshoot of the university.
Thomas Imbacher, Managing Director of Peri and responsible for innovation and marketing there, is quoted in the press release as follows: “Mesh technology is still a young technology that we have been pushing forward together in recent years. We believe in the potential in many areas of concrete construction and look forward to developing this construction method together over the long term.”
Philippe Jost, Head Construction at Sika, adds: “Through our cooperation with Mesh AG and Peri, a new type of construction method is being developed on the market that enables the production of complex geometries and is more cost-effective than conventional methods. Customers and the entire construction industry benefit from this.” Ammar Mirjan, CEO of Mesh AG, adds: “We are pleased and proud to be industrializing mesh construction technology in the construction industry together with Peri and Sika. Our different areas of expertise complement each other perfectly and we look forward to the opportunities this partnership opens up.” (AZ)
