The World Bank allocates 55 million dollars for the development of agriculture in the Republic of Moldova
The World Bank will invest 55 million dollars in the development of the agricultural field of the Republic of Moldova. One of the priorities is the expansion of irrigated areas. The Chisinau authorities announce that during the final negotiations with the representatives of the World Bank, the main financing directions were established.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, Vladimir Bolea, the project provides for the rehabilitation of the primary and secondary irrigation infrastructure, the expansion of irrigated agricultural areas, the modernization of the food safety system, the creation of the farm register and the development of value chains in the Republic of Moldova.
“The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry is in the continuous process of identifying tools to strengthen the resilience of the Republic of Moldova to climate vulnerabilities. High temperatures and lack of water resources are the main problem. Resistance to climate change can be increased by modernizing agriculture”, said Bolea.
The Ministry of Agriculture hopes that the investments made in the new project will be sustainable. The estimated value of the project is 55 million dollars. The financing from the World Bank is aimed at increasing the competitiveness and diversification of the markets.
