Pas-de-Calais in the top 10 departments with the most wind turbines

A study was carried out in July 2022 by Hello Watt, a French start-up created in 2016 which offers a comparator of electricity and gas offers, on the subject of wind turbines in France. In particular, it shows that Pas-de-Calais is in the top 10 departments with the most wind turbines. Make the point.
On July 14, 2022, Emmanuel Macron again called for energy sobriety during his speech. For its part, the CRE (Energy Regulation Commission) has just revealed that the wind power sector has benefited from increasing State revenue by 7.7 billion euros for 2022 and 2023.
In recent years, support for the wind power sector has created a burden on state finances. But due to the sharp rise in market prices due to the war in Ukraine and the low availability of EDF’s power plants, wind energy is now cheaper than market prices and therefore contributes positively to the budget of the state.
More than 1800 wind turbines in Hauts-de-France
Wind turbines have therefore been flourishing all over France for many years, especially north of Paris. Hauts-de-France is quite far from the region with the most wind turbines installed with a total power of 4,245 MW. More than 1800 aeromotors sit enthroned in the region.
In the top 10, there are four Hauts-de-France departments where 1,863 wind turbines are installed, including 380 in Pas-de-Calais alone.
Hello Watt’s study explains that “the strength and regularity of the winds in these regions seem to be the first criterion for explaining this distribution”. The “available land” (low population density, few farms, etc.) would be another avenue to consider.
This strong inequality in the distribution of wind turbines on the territory is a “factor in explaining local opposition to the installation of new wind farms”, reported Hello Watt. From now on, wind farms also extend into the sea, but the study stops at onshore wind turbines. We have not finished seeing them appear.
