I enjoy every point, laughs Hlaváčková. In a pair with Hradecká, he is playing his last tournament in Prague | iRADIO
Tennis player Andrea Sestini Hlaváčková extended her professional career by at least one match. At the tournament in Prague’s Stromovka, they advanced to the second round with their partner Lucía Hradecká. They turned Monday’s duel against compatriots Kolodziejová and Detiucová and won 10:3 in the final super tiebreak. In an interview with Radiožurnál, Hlaváčková admitted that at the beginning of the match she was more nervous than she expected.

After an unsuccessful start, you celebrate a win where the game broke?
The beginning was weak, which was probably to be expected mainly from my side. At 1:4 I was a little desperate. I thought we had to play a solid score. And once we started winning a few balloons, I started enjoying myself.

Did you believe that you could extend your life?
I didn’t really hope for a victory, but Lucka then held a few games all by herself, got us back into the match, and in the second set we fell terribly.
During joint training sessions, you said that the cooperation is still there. Did it show in the final super tiebreak?
It was evident from the beginning. Because even at the moment when I played a complete pencil, Lucka knew how to approach it. What to say, what not to say. How to look. The ending was also important. We know what to expect from the other.
In recent months, you have exchanged the racket for the microphone of Radiožurnál Sport. How would you compare the interview and the three-set match?
With all due respect to my future profession, it was more challenging on the court. Just the preparation. Of course, it cannot be compared. It is very physically demanding. Moreover, in the heat and after a four-year break. I almost spit blood after practice and we played for 25 minutes.
What role did nervousness play in your performance?
I thought the beginning wouldn’t be so nervous. That I know what I’m getting into. But he was. Then I shook it off and felt good.
If he did well in the tournament, is there a chance he wouldn’t be the last?
Currently there is no chance at all. I use every point.
