Eintracht Frankfurt: Starting eleven debut for world champion Mario Götze? | Sports
It’s just a game against a fourth division team. But for a world champion it can be a very important one…
Eintracht tests for the last time on Wednesday evening before it will be in Magdeburg next Monday. At 6 p.m., the regional league tenth of the past season, Astoria Walldorf, awaits.
For Mario Götze (30) it is the last endurance test before the cup game at the start of the season.
The new signing from Eindhoven has only played 75 minutes in the four test games so far: he was rested in the first two, then it was 30 minutes in the 0-0 draw against LASK and the second half in the 3-1 win against FC Turin.
Reason: Coach Oliver Glasner will carefully introduce his midfield star, slowly increasing the load. So we’ll have to wait and see if he’ll let him play longer and from the start today.
If not, it could be an indication that Götze is sitting on the bench in the first competitive game in Magdeburg.
No problem at all – thinks Ervin Skela (45). The promotion hero from 2003 (a total of 99 games for Eintracht with 28 goals and 20 assists), says BILD: “It’s right to build him up slowly. Of course he knows the Bundesliga, but at Eintracht everything is still quite fresh for him. My wish for him is that he stays fit, has a clear mind and enjoys football as much as he did when he started in Dortmund.”
Ex-playmaker Skela, who is currently assistant coach of the U19s, still can’t really believe that Götze is now a Frankfurter. “At first I thought it was fake news when it said Mario is coming to Eintracht. The fact that it’s true shows what a name the club has made for itself. We’ve been missing a bit of an instinctive footballer lately. One who can play the deadly pass. I’m already looking forward to the games with him.”
And if not from the beginning in Magdeburg, then later…
