a new fire and rescue centre, specializing in technological risks, for firefighters
The new fire and rescue operations center in Toulouse has been operational since Monday 25 July. Nearly 120 professional or volunteer firefighters will be there to intervene in Toulouse and around ten surrounding municipalities. This new center is part of the vast construction program undertaken by the SDIS of Haute-Garonne.
After several months of work, the Toulouse firefighters were finally able to take possession of their new barracks. Located on Boulevard d’Atlanta in Toulouse, it is the fourth center integrated in recent months around the conurbation.
This Monday, July 25, Commander Thierry Sigwald has a smile on his face. He takes possession of the barracks and the command of the fire and rescue center of Toulouse Atlanta. “We did a pre-opening week with white guards. Today we are in the concrete organization. We are still looking for our bearings and there are adjustments to be made. We have to reclaim the barracks, the services and the organization “.
Within the barracks, more than 70 professional firefighters and around forty volunteers redeployed from other centers without them being closed. “Staff arrive from all over the place. I have been in charge of monitoring the project for a year. We have held so-called collective intelligence days to create a state of mind. New barracks with staff arriving, it is a dream that I fulfill” says Thierry Sigwald.
Like any operational fire and rescue center, Toulouse Atlanta will have to intervene 80% in emergency personal rescue and 20% emergency in fires, traffic accidents and other various and varied operations. But this new barracks is specialized in technological risks: nuclear, bacteriological, chemical. It is equipped with 3 specialized engines as well as personnel.
It is the 2nd barracks located in the center of Toulouse with that of Toulouse Delrieu, supplemented by 2 new outlying centers in Aussonne and Montgiscard (31). The objective is to improve the operational coverage of firefighters in the department. This new system should make it possible to reduce delays and improve the quality of relief.
