It’s exactly one week since you can go for the second boosting dose of vaccination against covid-19 for those over the age of eighteen. Health workers administered more than 21,000 vaccines. This follows from data on the website of the Ministry of Health. Most people came for the second booster dose on Friday. There were 7,644 of them. On other weekdays, interest in the second booster dose ranged between three and four thousand a day.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, interest varies by region. While in the Karlovy Vary region, the fewest people came for the next vaccine, around 300, in Prague, on the contrary, it was over 6,600. There was great interest on the very first day last Monday, for example at the Motol hospital in Prague.
People can go for the second booster dose of vaccination against the coronavirus as early as a week. What is the interest so far?
Everyone over the age of eighteen, who has had at least four months since their previous dose, is entitled to it. The Ministry of Health recommends revaccination mainly for people over 60 and at-risk patients.
For a boost, people can come without prior registration. It will be possible to reserve the vaccine in advance from mid-August, as Deputy Minister of Health Josef Pavlovic (Pirates) said earlier: “It will be possible in the so-called walk-ins, of which we have over 50 in operation, at general practitioners and in some hospitals.”
Over 6.8 million people in the Czech Republic have completed the basic vaccination against the coronavirus.
Summer wave of coronavirus
There is now a summer wave of covid-19 in the Czech Republic. The number of infected people is still growing, last week it did not fall below 2,500 on weekdays. The number of hospitalized people was also increasing. This Saturday, there were 706 patients with covid-19 in hospitals, which was approximately 200 fewer than the previous Saturday.
According to the director of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics, Ladislav Dušek, the increase in the number of hospitalized patients could be prevented by a strengthening dose.

“Protection against a severe course of the disease, against hospitalization in intensive care units, takes longer. The durability is up to seven months and longer,” Dušek described. At the same time, he previously said that the summer wave of the coronavirus should probably peak at the end of July.
“We are approaching a kind of imaginary peak. If I were to base it on normal predictive models and how the curve develops in Austria, Germany or Portugal, we could achieve this by the end of July at the latest. And right now is the period when the number of new cases is relatively increasing. It must be emphasized that these are not the total number of infected people, we do not know them at the moment.”
The coronavirus epidemic began to accelerate in the Czech Republic at the beginning of June. The more infectious BA.4 and BA.5 submutations of the omicron coronavirus variant are behind the transmission of cases during the summer months.
However, the Ministry of Health does not plan to introduce blanket measures. He does not even want to introduce widespread preventive testing for the coronavirus, which was paid for by health insurance companies.
