Prague – Tennis player Petra Kvitová will not participate in the Livesport Prague Open in Stromovce next week. The two-time Wimbledon champion is still recovering from an injured wrist and has withdrawn from the tournament. Inflammation in the wrist has been bothering Kvitova for over a month, she last played three weeks ago at the London Grand Slam, where she was eliminated in the third round.
“Playing at home is something very special, after so many years on the circuit. Unfortunately, my wrist has not yet fully recovered, so I have to withdraw from the tournament. I know that the tournament will be great and, above all, they will provide a great atmosphere again,” said Kvitová on instagram.
Kvitová, who won the Prague Open in 2018, was supposed to be the third seed after the withdrawal of the Olympic champion from Tokyo, Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic. In the end, he will not appear in the competition and will not have the opportunity to correct last year’s unsuccessful performance in Stromovka, when the tournament’s number one was eliminated in the first round.
This year, the highest seeded player is world number two Estonian Anett Kontaveitová. The number two in the spider is Barbora Krejčíková. There are six Czech female tennis players in the competition before the end of the qualification.
