Over the past seven days, there have been 14,710 new cases of the coronavirus in the country, which is about 4,500 more than the previous week. There were 725 people in hospitals with covid, almost a third more than at the end of last week and the most since the end of April. At the beginning of July, 200 were hospitalized. The coronavirus epidemic began to accelerate in the Czech Republic at the beginning of June. Among the number of cases during the summer months, the BA.4 and BA.5 submutations of the omicron coronavirus variant are more contagious.
Experts expect that the summer wave could peak at the end of July, but the decline will be gradual and the number may remain higher after that. During the entire period of the covid-19 epidemic in the Czech Republic, i.e. since March 2020, more than 3.96 million cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in the country. This number does not include cases where someone has reappeared. The ministry registers almost 278,000 suspected cases of repeated infection. Since the beginning of the epidemic, 40,380 people have died in the Czech Republic with covid-19.

There are no general measures against the spread of the virus in the Czech Republic yet, but some hospitals and social facilities have already ordered the wearing of respirators.
