O5 and Radeček sang for joy from Prague’s Střechy Radost
Šumper band O5 and Radeček went on their fourth tour “On the roofs” after a two-year break. In Prague, she played a double concert at Střeše Radost, hosted by Jakub Děkan and his band. The joint song “Jizvy” was played, questions were asked from the audience and overall it was somehow pleasant.

When I learned that my favorite Councilors, as they are also familiarly called, will play this format of concerts, I couldn’t miss it. They are going on a similar tour for the fourth time, I was there for the third time: first in 2016 at the Vítkovice memorial (where Pokáč was a guest) and in 2017 on the roof of the iconic department store Kotva (where Sabina Křováková joined them). This year it was also supposed to be the last year, the boys didn’t want to make it a tradition… and look, it’s a tradition! Today, everyone plays on the roof, regularly, for example, Zrní, which I was at exactly a month ago, but at O5 and Radeček, I registered this type of concert as one of the first. The concept originated years ago in his native Šumperk. They change places regularly, once they even found themselves on the roof of the local cultural center. The pearl is that, for example, bassist Ondra Polák himself does not need much height, but even so he always dares to step out of his comfort zone. I have been on this roof for a year, and during that time it has undergone several minor modifications. The stage is located on the other side, and if you want to cool off, you can also use a small pool with an inflatable swan. There was no shortage of cooling. The new water sprinklers from the roof refreshed us, which was very pleasant in the steam that prevailed at the moment.

This year’s roof cord it started a day earlier in Liberec. Due to the great interest, two concerts were planned in Prague. Jakub Děkan leads them all. The band noted that the weather has always worked out, this year it probably won’t be heard. Currently, tropes prevail, the singer’s head is still covered in a cap – it is said to serve as a thermal insulator, as he himself jokingly commented, and thus subtly drew attention to the purchase of band merch, which also includes caps. Later, the musicians tried to cool us down with the winter-tuned song “Mrázek”, which guitarist Radeček took on as a solo singer. The introductions were also funny, especially Ondra could be a stand up comedian. He surprised with the solo song “Ondrov” and added a story about the fact that little is known, that he was the singer at first, but then his mother convinced him that the frontman had to be handsome, so he changed it with his brother and had to start playing bass. He told it so believably, with such diction and a sad expression that one would slowly believe him. Brother Tomáš identified him as Jiří Schmitzer from Šumper.

Less well-known compositions, such as “Beethoven” or “Bára”, were also mentioned. They also used the presence of Jakub Děkan and performed “Jizvy” only accompanied by the keyboard. They were preceded by a clash of opinions about who gets the song more wrong, which is said to have been established. Because of this, you need a reading device – paper with the text, or rather with just the Jakub part. Even so, Tomáš couldn’t help it and looked at the paper too, looking for what he would grab in the case of a window. It’s a shame that they didn’t use the singing talent of Martina Pártlová, who was sewn up in the audience with her partner Pepa Vařeka, who, like the group, also comes from Šumperk. But what was not missing were questions from the audience in the middle of the set. They started this tradition on the last tour on the roofs in 2020. The more or less banal questions were read by all the members and Jakub, and their tone elicited smiles and amusement from everyone present. For many, but especially for musicians, it was a surprise that the setlist included the song “I expected more from myself”. They admitted that they thought I wouldn’t be up for playing in concert, but the fans stomped on him at will.

At the end, the song “Budu rád” was played, which was created for the film “Spindl”. The band revealed that not only their music, but also their trivia in the movie “Circus Maximum” will appear in the fall. It is the fourth tour, but it is not the only place, the number four appears in several places in the history of the formation. O5 and Radeček have been working in the same line-up since 1994, in 2004 they made a breakthrough into the radio mainstream with the song “Prague” and experienced a comeback in 2014 with the duet “Vloupám se” with Mária Čírová, who returned and their work firmly established itself in the radio ether. I am already looking forward to what important milestone the year 2024 will bring, which is almost at the door.
