The political moment we are going through makes us even more responsible for updating the debate on the future of Europe which must necessarily lead to a strengthening of the role of the Regions in the action of the European Union, using all the potential of the Treaties ”.

“It was interesting and formative to listen to the interventions of the qualified speakers and institutional political representatives who allowed us to analyze effectively and the presence of the proposals contained in the report on the results of the Conference on the future of Europe further commits us to guaranteeing an effective follow-up. to the report, each in the context of their respective and in accordance with the Treaties ”, he affirmed competences Montoro.

Together with our colleagues we were able to draw indications and lessons on what our institutional role should be. The conclusions have been entrusted to Piero Mauro Zanin, President of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Council and Delegate for Coordination for European Policies of the Conference of Regional Legislative Assemblies.
“As reported on the agenda to discuss today, the Italian Parliament has committed the Government to constant dialogue with the parliamentary committees, ensuring full involvement of the territorial autonomies, and to promote, among the proposals that emerged from the Conference on the future of Europe, those that it can allow a strengthening of the European Union, including the initiation of a process of revision of the Treaties in the context of a convention – he continues Montoro – The most recent crises need a common response at the European level: the Russian aggression against Ukraine demonstrates the need for an EU that is geopolitically stronger, with a common foreign policy and speaking with one voice in the areas of security and defense, energy and migration. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown how the EU must react, providing solutions in the areas of health, economic growth and social cohesion. We are convinced that in the future Convention for the revision of the European Treaties, both the European Committee of the Regions as an institution representing the European regions and cities, and the CALRE (Conference of Legislative Assemblies of the Regions of the Union), must be involved and participants Regional parliaments of the EU. And together with the president of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto, we will work for this with ever greater determination ”.
