Slavia enters the Conference League, in Gibraltar they want to step forward for another European run
The Slavists have completed a two-phase preparation in Aigen, Austria, during which they completed three matches. First, they parted amicably with Greek Olympiakos, for whom it was already the fourth game after the summer break.
During the 7:1 debacle of Rapid Bucharest, reinforcements were already in place; Brazilian Ewerton scored three times, Jureček and the returning Valenta also added one goal each. The general against the Hungarian team Puskás was then decided by a single goal by the new African discovery Usor.
It is the change of staff that is once again a current topic in Eden. Benfica was headed for the big support Bah, while the Indonesian exotics were chosen by Kúdel and Krmenčík. Besides, Slavia again she also lost the injured Hovorka for a long timeNot even captain Bořil is back in match practice.
Talovjerov and van Buren found guest accommodation in the last few days, other players including Plavšić and Samek could soon follow. In addition, there is also the departure of long-time support Olayinka. The Tecl – Ševčík duo could not be included in the roster for the match against St Joseph’s.
Selected departures | Selected arrivals |
Alexander Bah (Benfica) | Eduardo Santos (Karviná) |
Ondřej Kúdela (Jakarta) | David Douděra (Mladá Boleslav) |
Michael Krmencik (Jakarta) | Christ Tiehi (Liberec) |
Maksym Talovjerov (Liberec – loan) | Ewerton (Mladá Boleslav) |
Mads Madsen (Aarhus) | Václav Jurečka (Slovakia) |
Ladislav Takács (Baník Ostrava) | Moses Usor (Slavia B) |
Jurečka and Ewerton should also help Slavia’s productivity
But Slavia mostly managed to fill the gaps. Baha should primarily replace the fast-footed Douděr, he came to improve the 15-goal performance last year with poor production in front of the opponent’s goal representative striker Jurečka. Stopper Santos and winger Ewerton also have ambitions for the starting line-up.
In addition, the Stitchers are still discussing the arrival of another central defender, the long-mentioned Swede Hien has been confirmed as one of the three options. The two-goal youngster Usor appeared very interesting in the preparation, who in the spring brought Slavist “B” to the second league and is now grinding his teeth for a more prominent role in the A team.
Slavia has taken care of motivation right from the opening match of the UEFA European Conference League. In addition to the starting position of the team in the rematch, the entire Czech football also depends on the coefficient; it is currently in the 17th place in the ranking and there is work to be done to return to five places in football Europe.
Extra motivation is given to Slavia by the fact that this EKL final will take place in Prague’s Eden. However, before coach Trpišovský’s wards can start thinking similarly far ahead, they must first overcome not only Gibraltar’s St Joseph’s and then also two other rivals in any subsequent preliminary rounds.
St Joseph’s have already taken one opponent by surprise, can they do it again?
The domestic selection season started already two weeks ago. Although league competition in Gibraltar does not start until late September/October, St Joseph’s began their journey through the European Cups with the first qualifying round of the UEFA European Conference League.
Already in a double match against Northern Ireland’s Larne, St Joseph’s were the underdogs, yet in the end he was a goal happier and advanced to the duel with Slavia. However, participation in European cups is not an exit for Gibraltar’s oldest team, in the league in recent years St Joseph’s has regularly placed third, which ensures advancement to Europe.
Last year, however, the team was stopped by the Estonian Levadia in the first preliminary round. An interesting comparison for Czech fans can be the match against Glasgow Rangers from the 2019/20 season, from which the Gibraltar team left defeated after two debacles 0:4 and 0:6.
Selected fights of St Joseph’s on the European stage | |||
Season | Competition | Rival | The results |
2022/23 | 1st preliminary round EKL | Larne | 0:0 to 1:0 |
2021/22 | 1st preliminary round EKL | Levadia Tallinn | 1:3 to 1:1 |
2020/21 | 0. preliminary round EL | B36 Tórshavn | 1:2 |
2019/20 | 1st preliminary round EL | FC Rangers | 0:4 to 0:6 |
2019/20 | 0. preliminary round EL | FK Pristina | 1:1 to 2:0 |
- Date, time and place of the match: 21/7 at 19:00, Victoria Stadium
Given the above fact, Slavia’s goal should be nothing other than a convincing victory. The difference in quality should be visible right from the opening whistle, and coach Trpišovský’s team should succeed in both halves, which should be enough for the correctness of the tip given the offensive strength of the opponent.
TIP: Slavia will win both halves at odds of 1.71 Bet at Tipsport
