On Wednesday, there were 2,757 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the Czech Republic, 774 more than a week ago. But it is less than this week on Monday and Tuesday. The number of people who are in hospitals with covid-19 is increasing. Now there are 664 people, of which 27 are in serious condition. A week ago, 238 fewer people were hospitalized with covid. This follows from data on the website of the Ministry of Health.

The so-called incidence number, i.e. the number of newly confirmed cases of infection with the coronavirus in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, is also rising. As of Thursday, it stands at 128, seven more than on Wednesday. The highest value continues to be in Prague, where it rose to 214. It is followed by the districts of Praha-západ, Praha-východ and Sokolov.

Interest in vaccination against covid-19 has been growing in the last two weeks. On average, health workers administered 5,282 doses of vaccination, which is the most since May 6. From Monday, people can also get the second booster dose, so far 8,447 people have come for it, of which 3,462 in the past day.
Minister of Health Vlastimil Válek (TOP 09) said on Wednesday that the authority has no plans to introduce widespread preventive testing for the coronavirus covered by health insurance. The only thing that will now be discussed with health insurance companies is the possible reimbursement of PCR tests for people with symptoms even without a doctor’s request.
According to Válk, with the spread of new coronavirus variants, the time during which two people can become infected, for example, is reduced to less than a minute. According to him, extensive testing thus loses its meaning.
During the entire period of the covid-19 epidemic in the Czech Republic from March 1, 2020, approximately 3.96 million cases of infection with the coronavirus were confirmed in the country. This number does not include cases where someone has reappeared. Suspected re-infection is almost 277,000 and 1,016 for Wednesday.
Since the beginning of the epidemic, 40,370 people have died with covid-19, in the last seven days it was about 23 people. These data may still change due to additional reporting. About 6.88 million people in the Czech Republic were fully vaccinated against this disease, and about 4.26 million people received a booster dose of the vaccine.
