Upon arriving at the scene, the firemen discovered that the truck driver had unintentionally veered off the D1 highway in the direction from Prague to Brno on a service exit for the police and highway maintenance. At the intersection with the secondary road that runs under the highway between Bernartice and Němčice, the tractor with a semi-trailer overturned. His cargo spilled onto the road.
Fire crews from Benešov, Vlašimi and Zruči nad Sázavou responded to the scene. Due to the heavy weight of the crashed set, a specialized company was called in to turn it around and then tow it away, which also took care of loading the spilled cargo.
The truck driver escaped the accident with minor injuries, but after preventive treatment, he was taken to the hospital a short time later for examination.
Firefighters secured the vehicle against a fire and then took care of the escape from the damage to the tank, which had several cracks. They then pumped the remaining diesel from the tank into barrels, which they had brought from the Benešov station.
After seven o’clock they arrived to replace the firefighters from the new shifts and continued pumping diesel and partially cleaning the scene of accidents.
The technique for the final cleaning of the road also arrived from the nearby Bernartice Highway Administration and Maintenance Center. Around nine o’clock the road was passable again.
