Hungary will not change its position: we will not send weapons to Ukraine
This position remains unchanged, so any news portal that makes a statement to the contrary is untruthful. No arms shipments have crossed the Hungarian-Ukrainian border, and this will not change in the future either, as they pose a security risk to the territory of Transcarpathia and endanger the safety of the Hungarian people
– writes the Embassy of Hungary in Kyiv in its statement.
The embassy is more than likely reacting to the Ukrainian news that Levente Magyar, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said during an official visit to Lviv on Tuesday that
On the territory of Hungary, allow weapons to be transported to Ukraine through the country.
In connection with the news, the Ukrainian newspapers refer to the press service of the city council of Lemberg, as the original source of the information. In the article, the previous Hungarian position is repeated, according to which the country does not allow weapons to be transferred to Ukraine because they do not want to put Transcarpathian Hungarians in danger – Kiszó writes. Levente Magyar is quoted in the article, who said
Hungary does not supply weapons, this is our strategic position. However, third countries can use our territory for this.
In response to Index’s questions, Máté Paczolay, the press spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Hungary has not changed its previous attitude regarding arms shipments. The embassy in Kyiv posted this statement on its social media page.
So according to the official communication
Hungary still does not send weapons or soldiers to Ukraine, nor does it allow such shipments to cross the Hungarian-Ukrainian border through the country.
