Riegrovy sady: Prague 2 has opened the repaired part of the park
“Well glory, we can walk through the ‘Riegráče’ again,” the residents of Prague 2 call themselves. Enthusiasm stems from the newly reconstructed central part of the park. Even if it is not the whole part, making at least a piece accessible will help significantly. The overall revitalization is taking place gradually within individual comprehensive stages. The first one was supposed to be finished in September, but a large part is already ready. Although the work in the park continues, residents will be able to get to a section in the heart of the park from Monday 18 July. During their walks, they will also be able to refresh themselves again in the popular Dairy.
“By putting the revitalized part of the park into operation, we tried to cater especially to residents who use the park for sports, relaxation or for walking their dogs,” press spokesperson Andrea Zoulová tells Blesk. However, the strip of the park around it remains closed without changes, and since Monday, the corner rectangle, copying Italská and Vozová streets, has also been closed. The second stage should be completed by the town hall by the end of 2022.

Romance in the park
The revitalization itself consists in the reconstruction of the surfaces of the park paths, the drainage of rainwater into the infiltration galleries, the reconstruction of the existing water features and the installation of new drinking fountains or the construction of a natural amphitheater. The biggest draw will be the restoration of the romantic corner. The town hall will also demolish facilities for gardeners. There will be new benches and trash cans, and finally cast iron bollards that will prevent unwanted entry into the park. The town hall also wants to plant 50 trees and thousands of shrubs and bulbs in the park.
Green and blue “two”?
According to the press spokesperson of Prague 2, the town hall invests a lot of money in greenery and public spaces. “It is no different this year, when the town hall is counting on the amount of 98.47 million crowns,” says Andrea Zoulová. Prague 2 is also responding to climate change by modernizing technologies. He looks for new ways to deal with trees, plants and water. As part of the revitalization of the parks, the city hall is already counting on the construction of retention tanks to retain rainwater, the installation of intelligent irrigation and the expansion of the network of mist nets, which the people of Prague will especially appreciate on steamy days.
During this year, the revitalization of several parks and open spaces should be completed. The revitalization of the eastern part of Náměstí Míru behind the church of St. Ludmila or the restoration of a partial part of the park Čelakovského sady above Legerová street. In addition to the announced revitalization of the Riegro Gardens above Vozová Street, the reconstruction of the water feature in the Svatopluk Čecha Gardens will also be completed. the construction of a new multifunctional leisure area under the Nuselský bridge, which is hated by many locals or the planned restoration of retaining walls and staircases at Gröbe’s villa in Havlíčkové sady.
