A group from abroad organizes a false bomb alert campaign, Moldovan prosecutors announce
The recent bomb threats in the Republic of Moldova are not accidental, say prosecutors in Chisinau. They were allegedly put in the way of a group of people from abroad who want to cause unrest among the population, in the context of the war in Russia, but also the pro-European orientation of the country.
These bomb alerts became more frequent during the period when the Republic of Moldova received the status of EU candidate country, and the impact of these crimes is amplified at the level of societies in the context of the war in neighboring Ukraine, say Moldovan prosecutors. The latest bomb alert was registered on Monday, at the Supreme Court of Justice, and as always, it turned out to be false. Law enforcement did not find any explosive objects or substances.
False bomb alerts, announced in recent weeks both in Chisinau and throughout the Republic of Moldova, are being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), which are several suspects, both in the country and outside the country. “Their actions are led by a group of people who aim at some actions to destabilize and create unrest in society,” reads a statement to the Prosecutor’s Office, quoted by agora.md.
“Thus, the file also analyzes developments at the state level in various fields – granting candidate status in the European Union, aid for various categories, the vector of external development vs. increasing threats, circumstances that are taken care of in a number of versions. considered not at all accidental ”, it is shown in the PCCOCS communiqué.
The interim general prosecutor, Dumitru Robu, ordered the formation of the working group, which includes investigation officers from the National Investigation Inspectorate and officers from the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS), writes Agerpres, quoting “Ziarul de Garda”.
Prosecutors are investigating more than 50 false bomb alerts registered on the territory of the Republic of Moldova recently. The investigations led to clues showing the involvement of both Moldovan and foreign nationals, which necessitated the help of colleagues from abroad.
And the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, recently declared that the bomb alerts last established the development of a situation in the republic and the way to check the capacity of state institutions to react. “The Intelligence and Security Service has a lot of research to find out the identity of these alerts and they are and this involves costs, because it disturbs the activity of several public institutions. As far as I know, they have some information. (…) These things are not easy. They use email addresses that are hidden outside the country, coming from servers that are harder to verify. I have seen that such things have happened in other countries. (…) I believe that it is an intention to destabilize the situation, maybe also to check the capacities of our institutions to react, but it is more about destabilization, they want to scare the citizens, to create this panic in the society ” , declared Maia Sandu on the public television station.
