Prague will build a school for writers in Vodňanský. Prim will play light and playground on the roof
Prague’s Holešovice will have a new elementary school. The educational facility will be named after the writer Jan Vodňanský, who died last year as a result of covid-19, and will cost half a billion crowns tax-free.
The elementary school of Jan Vodňanský will be located at the corner of Jankovcova and Přádelní streets in lower Holešovice, where a new housing development is expected in the future. The architects from Josef Choc’s team therefore tried to design a comprehensive building that saves space and sets the direction for the next planned development. “The school enters the district with a clearly legible volume. It becomes an orientation point and pulls the space into its ground floor. The integrated and simple public shape creates illumination throughout the interior and is a guarantee of economical operation,” explains architect Josef Choc.
The school should accommodate twice nine classes plus two preparatory classes. I also count on two gymnasiums, an assembly hall, a kitchen, a dining room, two outdoor playgrounds and facilities for the teaching staff. In front of the school on the corner of Jankovcova and Přádelní streets, a small square with trees, rest areas, benches and bike racks will be created. The town hall wants to start construction in 2024.
