In Poldi Kladno, a raw material collection plant was on fire. Two people were injured, the damage is 20 million
The fire in the metal waste redemption shop in Na Valmetce Street was reported before midnight. There was one slightly burned man in the area, who apparently also inhaled the fumes. After treatment, the paramedics took him to the Kladno hospital. One of the firefighters also suffered minor injuries, but after treatment she continued to intervene at her own request.
According to Kereková, the fire spread quickly because the area of the collection center was very fragmented and a lot of flammable materials were stored in it, in addition to several large propane-butane bottles. Two of them exploded, the explosion did not injure anyone. “The fire still had a lot of therapy and the roof began to fall onto the main building, that’s why the intervention commander requested additional reinforcements,” said regional fire department spokeswoman Vladimíra Kereková.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control before 2 a.m. Saturday. They took propane-butane cylinders out of the building, which they cooled with water. Then they started looking for hidden foci. They found them mainly under a collapsed structure, part of the damaged building had to be dismantled gradually. Firefighters completely extinguished the fire before 10:30 a.m.
They preliminarily calculated the direct damage to the building and technical equipment at twenty million crowns, we managed to save the property for five million crowns. According to investigators, the fire started after an extension cable ignited. “Why it happened will become apparent after technical expertise in cooperation with an expert group from the Technical Institute of Fire Protection in Prague,” added Kereková.
