A thousand square meters of wooded area in Budapest was on fire, and the firefighters were called to one more place
On Saturday, the capital’s firefighters had to go out to fight a large-scale vegetation fire at two locations.
On the website of the Metropolitan Disaster Management Directorate, it was announced: in the morning, several thousand square meters of the socket burned in a wooded area of Budapest II. district, at Budakeszi út. After several hours of hard work, the units finally eliminated even the smaller glows. Vaccination was made difficult by the fragmentation and terrain of the area. Traffic on Budakeszi út also had to be restricted for the duration of the intervention, they added.
Later in the evening, the XXIII. district, at kilometer 24 of the M0 highway, at the Dunaharaszti exit, ten to fifteen hectares of undergrowth caught fire close to the highway. The further spread of the fire was resolved by nine o’clock in the evening.
In a statement, the Budapest disaster management drew attention to the fact that starting from the second of July there is a fire ban in the entire country. According to this, it is forbidden to light fires in Hungarian forests, along railways and roads, and even in designated fire pits. During the period of high fire risk, wildfire and garbage burning are also not permitted, they pointed out.
The population is asked to be extra careful, “because the undergrowth is extremely dry, even a discarded glowing cigarette butt can cause a fire with enormous damage.”
