Monkey pox: Two more cases confirmed in Prague
In recent days, according to hygienists, infection with monkeypox has been demonstrated in a forty-one-year-old man from Prague, who in the previous months had been in Berlin, Valencia and Madrid, among others. The infected person had chills, with a high temperature and an ongoing rash on some parts of the body. He is now in home isolation. The second case is a man two years older, also from the capital, who also developed a rash and other skin manifestations.
“Due to the progression of the skin manifestations, a specialized examination was carried out in an inpatient medical facility and a positive result was subsequently confirmed. The person was ordered to undergo strict home isolation and regular contact with the attending physician was recommended,” the hygienists said.
In none of the cases reported on Friday, the hygienists did not say whether it was a man or a woman. The reason is the protection of personal data.
So-called monkeypox was common in West and Central African countries. Around the middle of May, the infection also spread to Europe, the USA and other countries. According to information from the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC), which was published by the State Health Institute (SZÚ), it was recorded in 26 European countries and there are over 4,900 cases, most in Spain and Germany.
Last week, the Ministry of Health reported that the European Union purchased a vaccine against monkey pox from the common budget. The Czech Republic will receive 2,800 benefits from them. Eliška Machová from the press department of the Ministry of Radiožurnál said at the time that widespread vaccination is not expected now, the Czech Republic will have vaccines in case the situation worsens or for at-risk patients.
