Prague 2: Children invite visitors to be considerate with their drawings

“We like Dvojka. We live here together,” is the new slogan of Prague 2, with which this part of the city is launching an information campaign in its streets and parks.
Especially in the summer months, local noise, disorder and non-observance of the ban on consuming alcohol in public are troubling. This time, however, elementary school students are also participating in solving the problem. Thanks to their works of art, which are directly part of the information signs, streets, parks and squares are transformed into an open-air gallery.
“We are a central part of the city and at the same time a city monument zone. Our square, parks and the area of the Rašín embankment have long been among the most popular places to relax in the metropolis. However, this also brings with it many negatives for our residents, such as greater noise and frequent disturbance of the night’s peace. And finally, we also bring requirements for cleanliness and order. I know that the police and constables are doing everything to control the situation in the parks, but that alone is not enough. We want everyone to live well in Prague 2. That’s why we came up with the idea to involve the pupils of our primary schools in the information campaign. And we did well, the schoolchildren performed their task excellently. They drew the themes with their childish, yet very perceptive view. Children’s pictures exude a directness that makes you think. In the end, a respectable hundred proposals arrived at the town hall, so choosing the winning five was not easy at all,” explains the town hall’s campaign, its mayor Alexandra Udženija.
The winning five designs together with the accompanying text are decorated with new information signs that the city district had installed, for example, on Karlovo or Tylovo náměstí, in Zítkové sady and on the Rašín embankment. In this way, visitors and foreign tourists can simply and clearly familiarize themselves with the rules of conduct, e.g. compliance with cleanliness and order, compliance with nighttime silence or the prohibition of alcohol consumption in public. The town hall intends to present a complete display of all works of art to the public in September through separate exhibitions.

“We care about safety and order. That is why we closely monitor the current situation in the city district and regularly evaluate it together with the police and constables. We meet at a common table and solve any problems in time and quickly, so as to prevent the situation from worsening. With the arrival of warm weather and the beginning of the tourist season, the police noticed an increased concentration of visitors near monuments, in parks, on squares and on the waterfront. And in this connection, she also registered more frequent violations of night peace and public order. However, when dealing with such cases, police officers and constables repeatedly encountered the misunderstanding of visitors and ignorance of regulations. Following frequent complaints from residents of Podskálí, a new decree has also been effective since the beginning of July, which prohibits the consumption of alcohol on the embankment at night. This also prompted us to come up with a new information campaign that will help the police and visitors,” added Michal Zuna, Prague 2 councilor for security.
