EDUCATIONAL TOURNAMENT… A week of astronomy. This is what all the curious people from the Republic of Moldova have, at the invitation of those from Balti District. The tournament started on July 11 and ends on July 15. It is an astronomical education tour “Discover the sky of Bessarabia!”, Where those interested can look at the stars through the high-performance telescope brought from Romania, from the Astronomical Observatory of the Bârlad museum. The event takes place in Taul Park in Donduseni district. Dr. Mircea Mamalaucã, director of the “Vasile Pârvan” Museum in Bârlad, also participates in this tour, performing demonstrations for curious astronomers from Moldova, together with Ciprian Vîntdevarã, head of the Astronomy Department at the Bârlad Museum.
The tour of the most efficient solar telescope in Romania, reached the Cultural-Natural Reserve “Orheiul Vechi” in the Republic of Moldova. The event consisted of three stages: an introductory lesson, solar astronomical observations and nocturnal astronomical observations. The demonstrations will be made by Mircea Mamalaucã, director of the “Vasile Pârvan” Museum, Bârlad, Romania and Ciprian Vântdevarã, head of the astronomy department of the museum. The astronomer, museographer and head of the Astronomy Department, Ciprian Vântdevarã, is the one who made the biggest discovery in the history of Romanian astronomy and the seventh in the world, identifying a New Bright Red Rosary, and in November 2019 he discovered a star, which . he named it in honor of his hometown – Bârlad V1.
Bessarabians delighted with the solar telescope and the “enormity” of the Sun!
“We have a telescope for the sun, which we brought here. It is unique in Romania, being the largest telescope for the public. With this special telescope for the sun we can see details, eruptions, filaments, and even explosions on the surface of the sun “, said Ciprian Vântdevarã, head of the astronomy department of the” Vasile Pârvan “museum in Bârlad.
“I came from Moseni to Taul to look through the telescope. I saw the sun being huge and the explosions taking place on it. It’s interesting “, said one of the participants.
“I saw the sun and the clouds. The sun was red and round, with black spots. I was happy to look through the telescope “, said another visitor, excited, for the Moldovan press.
“It’s the first time and I’m in a good mood because I saw what the sun really looks like,” said another young man. “Yes I liked it. I would like to have more opportunities like this “, he further commented.
“It was interesting to see the sun for the first time through a telescope,” the children said.
The event was organized at the initiative of the Public Association “Rustic Horizons” from Balti.
“The purpose of this tour is to motivate the young generation and astronomy enthusiasts, to discover the universe, to know the sky. All those interested can see the sun, the moon and the stars during the night observations “, said Ala Cucu, the president of AO” Rustic Horizons “. And the local and district authorities made sure that everyone who wanted to came to the event.
“It is an opportunity for the children from the district to actually see the sun, the stars, with a high-performance telescope and to accumulate information. Seven school buses were brought to children from 10-11 localities in the district, including from the city of Donduseni “, said Gulnara Grigoriev, head of the Education Department in Donduseni District.
“I had some very beautiful sensations. I saw the sun as if under a microscope, with all the eruptions, the dots, which are several times larger than the earth. Something very interesting. ” Similar presentations and astronomical observations took place in Drochia (District Council) on July 12; on July 13 in Bălti (Municipal Palace of Culture); today, July 14 in Trebujeni, Orhei district, at the Info Center of the Eco-Resort Butuceni pension. At the end of the tournament, on July 15, in the courtyard of the Municipal Children’s Clinical Hospital “Valentin Ignatenco” in Chisinau, between 11.00 and 14.00, children with health conditions, but also all those interested will be able to observe the solar atmosphere: bumps, filaments, sunspots and solar flares through the Lunt solar telescope, and at the end of the action they will participate in competitions on general culture in astronomy, subsequently winning prizes consisting of Romanian astronomy magazines.
“This event is welcome, it is a joy for children that they came out of the Center of Creation, to see this beautiful phenomenon, the sun,” said Liliana Harasniuc, deputy director of the Center for Creation of Children and Adolescents in Donduseni. “I am very happy that at the Palace of Culture, there were many children from our village, children from the villages of Donduseni district. I want to tell you that the goal was for the children to see something beautiful, when they grow up to remember that they were in the village of Taul and looked through telescopes at interesting and beautiful things “, said Andronii Mitrica, the mayor of Taul. Astronomer Ciprian Vântdevara said that the sky in rural areas of the Republic of Moldova is perfect for watching everything that happens in the universe.
“Our goal here is to promote astronomy. It is a fascinating field that attracts people. We are here, in a region with a better sky than we have in Bârlad, Romania. It is a better sky and I recommend you to take advantage of this sky, that is to look at the sky at night, to go out of the house, to look at the sky, because here is a more special place. Where we don’t have lights, we don’t have light bulbs, the sky is better seen, this is the secret “, said Ciprian Vîntdevarã, head of service on the astronomy department,” Vasile Pârvan “museum, Bârlad.
