Baseball: Siena mercilessly slaughters the Anzio Dolphins
SIENA. Siena leaves the Dolphins Anzio without escape, beating the Lazio team with a peremptory 22 to 6 to 7 ‘for evident superiority on Sunday at Scialoja in the last home game, and targets the next opponent, Junior Grosseto, second in the standings, who the bianconeri will play away on 24 July.
A victory, that of Barroso’s team, also favored by the decidedly negative day of the opposing pitchers. Anzio alternated something like six pitchers on the mountain, some of whom were out of position (Mariani, Di Rosa, Iudicone, Iorio, Mazzoni and Rescigno), but still presented 3 of the 4 players involved in the starting line-up, starting from 12 July , in the Euro – African finals of the Senior League, to be able to go to the World Series in the USA (Festa played the whole match at second base, Ricci, who played only the first inning, in first, Caiazzo was always shortstop; only absent Leonardi). In total there were 22 ball bases conceded in seven rounds by the opponents, against only 4 valid beats scored by the Siena attack (the first of Alejandro Fernandez Matos in the 2 ‘, then of Antonio Rodriguez on the right outside at 3 ‘, one by Pichardo on the left at 6’ and another by Antonio Rodriguez, an excellent 2/5 for him on serve, always center outside at 6 ‘). A couple of hits complete the picture (one by Iudicone in the 3 ‘, which hit Dario Mancini, and the other by Mazzoni in the 6’, who instead hit the Juventus lead off Alejandro Fernandez Matos).
A discipline at the plate of the Estra attack that in any case deserves to be reported, as demonstrating the only 6 strike outs suffered by Barroso’s nine (one by Castillejos and one by Hernandez in the 1 ‘, one by Rodriguez Garcia in the 2’, all three scored from the first relief Di Rosa; one by Pichardo at 3 ‘by the second relief Iudicone and another by Rodriguez Garcia – on a bad day in attack with a 0 out of 3 – made by the third relief Iorio; finally the ‘last, at 6’, of the closest Rescigno on the newly entered Riccardo Rodriguez). In attack, the performances of the first two players of the line up (the Fernandez Matos brothers) deserve to be underlined, who arrived on base 5 times on 6 Leandro (3 bases balls, one valid and one hit) and 5 times on 5 batting rounds his brother Alejandro (four bases balls and an error of the shortstop, to which is added a sacrificial sprint in the 3 ‘, with which he reached Buret point).
Absurdly it was the attack of the guests that produced more (9 valid, compared to the 4 bianconere), but the Sienese starter Osti (remained on the platform for 6 full rounds), then replaced in the 7 ‘by a great Alejandro Fernandez Matos , they only conceded 4 bases balls to their opponents (all from Osti) in seven innings, sending strike outs 6 times (4 Osti, 2 Alejandro Fernandez Matos in a single round). In defense, I particularly mention the first base test of an excellent Bettele Castillejos, who confirmed to be a good glove, always ready in time of need.
SPACE AT THE “MILLENIALS” – In the final, space also for the 2006 Riccardo Rodriguez (deployed on the outside center, 0 on 2 in batting), Giulio Corsi (deployed at 6 ‘as pinch runner in place of Paulino and author of the momentary point 20 to 6) and JeanPiere Chipana (left fielder at 7 ‘). Even at 7 ‘the bianconeri are on the pitch with Leandro Fernandez Matos (2001), Alejandro Fernandez Matos (2005), Riccardo Rodriguez (2006), Dario Osti (2002), Bettele Castillejos (2002), Dario Mancini (2002) and JeanPiere Chipana (2006): 7 out of 9 “millennial” players (veteran Antonio Rodriguez, 1973, and Anthony Pichardo, 1996 completed the roster)
2 OF 3 TECHNICIANS IN PINK – The “millenials” at the same time on the pitch were not, however, the only note of Sunday’s match. On the Juventus roster, two out of three technicians, actually aspiring technicians, were “pink quotas”. These are Gaia Benvenuti, who shares her career as a coach with that of a top-level player in Serie A softball (she was also in the Under 22 national team), and Irene Bonazzola.
MANY “EX” PRESENT AT SCIALOJA – On Sunday there were many former Bianconeri in the stands of Scialoja: Jacopo Collalti, former Juventus player born in Anzio; Marco Ferretti, the only player from Siena to have worn the BBC Grosseto jersey in Serie A; Francesco Carta, who lived in the City of the Palio after winning two league titles in Grosseto and being the receiver of the Siena Baseball Club coached by Antonio Scialoja in the 1980s. Francesco Carta wanted to underline the presence, writing on social media: “Reviewing the red clay the four bases, friends who have your passion for beating and running are priceless moments in life, who like us have given and would like to dare even more for this magnificent game time should never pass ”.
