About 50% of young people with disabilities in Moldova are not employed
Almost 50 percent of young people with disabilities, aged between 18 and 35, are not employed and are not involved in studies or training.
According to a report prepared by the Alliance of Organizations for People with Disabilities in Moldova, the persons concerned are totally dependent on family members, they transmit. jurnaltv.md.
The explanation is one: disability pensions are lower than the subsistence minimum. “These young people are destined to live in poverty,” say the authors of the quoted report.
Depending on the degree of disability, the pension can cover between 50 and 72 percent of the subsistence minimum. At the same time, about 75% of young people with disabilities in rural areas fall into the category of those who are not employed and involved in education, and very few of them have a profession or education that exceeds the high school level.
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics show that only 13.5% of people with disabilities participate in the labor market, which is 26% less than among the general population. Another analysis shows that in Chisinau municipalitythe proportion of young people with disabilities, aged between 31 and 35, is practically double compared to the situation in other localities.
Most young people with disabilities live in rural areas and make up over 80% of the total. They fall into the category of disadvantaged young people and through reduced access to services and resources.
In conclusion, the authors of the report write that most young people with disabilities find it difficult to bear the situation they are in: they have suffered materially, but also emotionally, especially if they have been in this category for a long time.
