Where to go for full baskets? Check out the mushroom forecast
Literally like mushrooms after the rain, photos of baskets filled with mushrooms, but literally overflowing, have started to appear on social networks in recent days. After all, you can find them on the pages of the Journal. In some areas, the weather seems to be particularly favorable to mushroom pickers, which has been helped by recent weather developments.

In Central Bohemia, the region south of Prague should currently be a mushroom oasis, but not Eden.
This is not advised by experienced mycologists, but by meteorologists. Czech Hydrometeorological Institute also began to publish mushroom growth assumptions, which are based on a combination of commonly monitored meteorological data. The basis for the calculation of the mushroom models is the information on the saturation of the soil with precipitation in the previous 30 days combined with the evaluation of the average temperatures during the past week (more precisely: for the last seven days). Meteorologists base their experience on the fact that mushrooms thrive best in the summer months approximately ten to fourteen days after heavy rains, if the weather is warm – but not hot.
Pig farms further limit production. Farmers are not paid
Meteorologists now give mushroom pickers from central Bohemia and Prague the best hope for a good catch, especially in the vicinity of the capital. Right in the metropolis, especially at the southern edge, which sounds like an invitation to, for example, the Kunratické forest or the Michelské forest – and then in the adjacent areas: almost the entire territory of the Prague-west district and also in a significant part of Prague-east. Only in their northern parts the catches are predicted to be perhaps a little weaker, but still very promising. The northern edges of the Benešov and Příbram districts should also offer a lot of chances to quickly fill the baskets; in the Příbram region and also the territory at the southern edge of the district in the neighborhood of the border with Písek in South Bohemia.
Mushroom picking expeditions should also be promising in the eastern parts of Nymburk and Mladá Boleslav districts, as well as in Slánské; more precisely along the borders of Kladno and Mělník districts. It can therefore be expected that especially mushroom pickers in several cottage areas should come into their own.
In addition to forecasts of temperature, precipitation, wind and other phenomena directly related to the weather, meteorologists also predict a lot more. In addition to the expectation of mushroom growth, it concerns, for example, the activity of ticks, the occurrence of mosquitoes, the amount of bark beetles in the forests or, for example, pollen forecasts important for allergies. There is also thermal comfort, which is related to the evaluation of the feeling temperature.
